My name is Caitlin Barnes, and I’m a Pediatric Dentist who started my small dental practice in Anchorage, AK just ten years ago. This was no small undertaking, as it involved multiple drafts of plans, coordinating with an architect and design team, working with Providence hospital to get approval, completely gutting and rebuilding the existing office space, and finally installing equipment and putting the final touches on everything. One of the most instrumental people involved in the project who helped this dream come to fruition was Louis Ullrich, equipment specialist for Burkhart Dental Supply Company.

Not only was Louis always readily accessible in those early days of brainstorming, he had a vast knowledge of all aspects of dental equipment and design. He drew from an extensive knowledge base helping other dentists design and equip their offices and was able to offer tips and feedback that I wouldn’t have otherwise received. His attention to detail in those early days helped create a smooth workflow and comfortable space I have enjoyed for a decade.

I was also able to visit the Burkhart regional branch here in Anchorage to view some dental equipment first-hand rather than from a catalog or online. I remember viewing the model of Adec dental chairs I ultimately purchased for my practice, bringing my 1-year old daughter along with me to make sure they would be kid-friendly! Louis also provided samples of cabinetry and countertops to help make sure my choices aligned with the esthetic the architect envisioned for the space. Throughout every step of the way, Louis was there to help with a smile on his face.

Once the practice was up and running, Louis continued to support it’s growth. Over the years, the space underwent a slight expansion, adding an additional operatory as well as a designated Doctor’s office. Louis was integral in acquiring and installing the needed equipment for these new spaces for the practice to grow and expand. With the expansion of the practice, the patient base has only increased, which brings a need for efficiency. Louis has been a great resource for additional hygiene equipment to help accommodate this increase in patient flow. Not only am I able to see a greater volume of patients, I can be sure the quality of the experience remains excellent!

 

When I reflect back over the last ten years of working with Louis, I only have positive memories that come to mind. One recollection is of a photo shoot Louis and I did of the office as we were preparing to see our first patients. I remember how much pride I felt in the space, and I was giddy with excitement. That day I truly felt that Louis shared my sentiments, and was as proud and excited as I was to open the doors. After the long journey from initial planning to the final days of execution, there is no better feeling than seeing your dreams become a reality, in no small part to Louis Ullrich.
